I in the market for a used car. My credit is bad, but I need a car to get back and forth to work….I checked out R & B auto center trying to see if I could afford a car and she is trying to sell me a 2003 Dodge Neon, it has 76,000. Miles on it. They are asking 7900.00 for it. It looks and runs pretty good, the only thing I could find wrong is it would slightly veer to the right while driving, which she told me is probably air pressure in the tire? I think it’s a alignment problem. Any ways what do you think about this purchase? I have $800. Down payment and a trade in she is giving me 500.00 dollars for, which is good if you could see what I am driving now. My credit is bad so they told me they could finance me at 19.95% interest YIKES!!! Please help me. Tell me what I should do.

I got this from Edmunds.com:
"Resale value has always been a weak point of the Dodge Neon, so buying a used one will cost you very little. The flipside is that reliability is also below average on this car, so you should expect to put some money into repairs. A thorough check by a mechanic is recommended before you buy - steer clear of any Neon with a history of engine or transmission problems."
The retail on a 2003 Neon with automatic transmission & 79K miles, in excellent condition, should be somewhere around $5,400.00 per Kelly Blue Book. Personally I think that's on the high side.

Thanks Carguy,
If only I lived in Texas, that would be great! But i live in So. Calif. Any way, I looked around for a better deal and found a 2003 Toyota Corolla S with 82K for 8800.00! Its in excellent condition. My trade in is a 1992 Mercury Cougar. And they will give me only $500.00 for it. It has over 100K and is in pretty bad shape (leaks oil) any way i think i am going to do it.
